Arriving at the Call- This is a mixed down representation of the first movement sequence-a mix of memory and present action. No text is delivered during this sequence, but we see the phone call made to dispatch, and the subsequent arrival of an ambulance and emergency medical response team onstage. The diagetic sounds give way to abstracted radio garble and sirens as the scene shifts.
Pebbles Sequence- In the final movement sequence of the play, we watch the main character sharing the weight of his experiences by sharing pebbles that he has carried with him, with his friends and allies. This piece of music tonally and harmonically bridges the space in the movement sequence between two live pieces of music, moving from a more solemn tone along with the diagetic cicada bed, and leading into an abstraction and suspension that sets up and creates space for the final song of the show. I See a Darkness- Written by Will Oldham, arranged and performed by Dan Baker (lead vox/guitar) and Ben Yarrow (vox/mandolin), recorded and produced by Noel Nichols. This was one of 6 total one-take recordings completed with the two musicians who developed the music for the show. These recordings were used for rehearsal, promotional materials, development, and for future use in the life of this show. |
